February 12, 1814
After winning at Montmirail , Napoleon's forces pursued the Russian and Prussian corps under Generals Sacken and Yorck. Yorck's soldiers attempted to hold Château-Thierry but were unable to hold their ground against the fierceness of the French attack. Despite suffering heavy casualties, the Allied forces were still able to escape from the trap.
